CHS band breaks another record with nine Outstanding Soloist Awards

Coppell High School Band members received nine Outstanding Soloist Awards at the annual Texas UIL State Solo Contest held in Austin last week. These nine students represent the most outstanding soloist for their instrument out of more than 50,000 students who competed at the region level across the state.
To qualify for the State Solo Contest, a student must prepare a solo from the UIL list that is rated at the hardest level of solo. They must then memorize the solo and receive a first division on the solo from a judge at the regional level. Students who qualify for the Texas UIL State Solo Contest then perform their solo by memory for a judge who is normally an instrumental instructor from a major school of music in the United States.
This year, a record 174 Coppell High School students qualified to compete at the state level after regional competition. Out of these students, 52 were awarded First Division ratings and 72 were awarded Second Division ratings in Austin.
