Ralph Andrew Banks, Jr. age 93, of Sanger, Texas passed away March 29, 2018. He was born May 11, 1924 in Everman, Texas to Ralph A. Banks and Margie Jones.
Ralph graduated from Ponder High School. Ralph was married to Marjorie Pollard in Fort Worth, Texas on December 12, 1944. They made their home in Irving where they would live for many years as they raised their three children, Andy, Sue and Dan. They were active members of the First Baptist Church of Irving. Ralph served during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman. He worked at Trinity Industries for 57 years, beginning as a welder’s helper at Dallas Tank Co. as it was known then. He rose through various managerial positions to become Sr. Vice-President. At Ralph’s retirement, he and Marge moved to their ranch in Valley View. They were faithful members of the First Baptist Church in Sanger. Marge died in 2010, less than a year after she and Ralph celebrated their 65th anniversary together. His oldest son, Ralph Andrew “Andy” Banks, III died in 2016.
Ralph later married Belle Bland Lawson on August 27, 2011. They had met at First Baptist Church of Sanger, where both were members. She has been a wonderful and supportive Christian wife and they were blessed to share six-and-a -half together.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Belle of Sanger; daughters Sue and her husband Dr. Marvin Owen of Florence, Oregon, Pam Dumas and her husband Pat of Lucas, Texas and Joan O’Brien of Dallas, Texas; sons Dan and his wife Paula Banks of Mansfield, Texas and Mike Lawson and his wife Myriam of Belton, Texas; sister Juanita Armstrong of Irving, Texas; eleven grand-children: Maj. Scott and his wife Bethany Owen, Dr. Michael and his wife Sarah Owen, Dr. Amanda and her husband Jace Stukey, Brandon Banks, Ralph Andrew “Drew” IV and his wife Dr. Haley Banks, Dane Dumas, Cole Dumas, Collin O’Brien, Hannah O’Brien, John Lawson and Ruth Lawson; and eleven great-grandchildren: Corbin, Jenna, Caleb, and Evangeline Owen, Isaac, Luke, Matthew, and Judah Owen, Tucker, and Wyatt Stukey, and Braden Dumas.
Ralph was a caring man who loved the Lord and had a generous heart. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Coker Funeral Home of Sanger, Texas is handling arrangements. Visitation was on Monday, April 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Coker Funeral Home. Ralph’s funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Sanger with Dan D. Banks and Grant Bowles officiating. Interment followed at 1:30 P.M. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd. in Irving, Texas.
