Ladonna Stevenson 5K For Fairness
June 23, 8:30 a.m.
The Grand Prairie Housing and Neighborhood Services Department (GPHNS) is sponsoring a 5K (stroll, walk or run) for fairness through EpicCentral Grand Prairie, 2975 Esplanade.
The event will promote the Fair Housing Act, which protects people from discrimination when they are renting, buying, or securing financing for any housing. The prohibitions specifically cover discrimination because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability and the presence of children.
The event will be timed and GPHNS will provide race numbers and T-shirts to registered participants. To register, visit racewire.com/register.php?id=8974. Space is limited to the first 200 registrants.

KidsNotes
June 26, 10:30 AM
The Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra will be presenting its KidsNotes program at the South Irving Library.
KidsNotes is a one-hour program that begins with the reading of a book such as, “Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin” or “The Remarkable Farkle McBride,” which introduces the different families of instruments in an engaging and fun way. Next, depending on the age of the participants, students engage in games that explore musical concepts like pitch, rhythm, and timbre. Then one of our professional musicians introduces and plays their instrument, choosing music suitable for a young audience. To finish up, we have an Instrument Petting Zoo! which allows children to try out an instrument from each of the four orchestra families to learn more about their favorites!
