February SNAP Benefits Issued Early Due to Government Shutdown

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission announced that February SNAP benefits would be issued early on Jan. 20 due to the federal government shutdown. SNAP is the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that provides food assistance to eligible low-income individuals and families in Texas.

Early issuance of SNAP benefits is intended to carry recipients through the month of February. Benefits will not be distributed again until March.

“We are relieved that the government shutdown won’t affect benefits for SNAP recipients in February,” said Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas. “SNAP helps 3.6 million low-income Texans feed themselves and their families. Any disruption in this assistance would create immediate hardship for these households that could have lasting consequences.”

To check benefit amounts, SNAP recipients should visit YourTexasBenefits.com or call the Lone Star Help Desk at 800-777-7EBT.
Texans who need additional food assistance should contact their local food bank or dial 2-1-1.
