Officers involved in deadly shooting
Grand Prairie—Grand Prairie Officers responded to the 800 block of Cambridge at approximately 11:23 p.m. on April 8, regarding a man confronting a neighbor in a threatening manner and potentially under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
On arrival, officers attempted to contact the male at a neighboring residence. Officers knocked on the door and announced their presence, at which time they heard a gunshot from inside the residence. Officers retreated from the entryway to a safer position as the suspect exited the residence armed with a handgun and pointed the firearm directly at one of the officers. Fearing for their lives, both Grand Prairie police officers discharged their weapons striking the subject who was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grand Prairie Fire Department personnel. A loaded pistol was recovered immediately adjacent to the decedent by investigators.
The suspect’s identity, an adult male, will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once the next of kin have been notified.
Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
Both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave.
