Auto theft ends in shooting

Irving—The Irving Police Department was notified of an auto theft in progress in the 1500 block of Meridian Drive on Sept. 28 at approximately 1:45 a.m. The victim of the auto theft was pursuing the vehicle, leading officers to respond urgently and attempt a traffic stop. The suspect failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued.
Officers pursued the vehicle into the 6500 Block of Singleton Blvd in Grand Prairie, encountering a dead end. The suspect attempted to escape by ramming multiple police vehicles. The suspect showed no intention of exiting the vehicle, continuing to impact police vehicles, forcing those on the scene to discharge their duty weapons. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The Irving Police Department is working with the Grand Prairie Police Department to investigate this incident. Upon discharge from the hospital, the suspect will be charged and transported to jail.
When these incidents occur, it is standard procedure for the Irving Police Department to conduct a criminal and administrative investigation. Grand Prairie will conduct a separate investigation with the Dallas County Public Integrity Unit. Those investigations are underway, and no further information will be released at this time.
