Police investigate in-custody death

Irving—Officers arrested Patrick Jones, 32, for an active theft warrant out of Dallas County at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Mar. 10.

A detention officer conducting routine visual observations found Jones unresponsive in his cell at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Mar. 11. Detention officers immediately initiated life-saving measures. The Irving Fire Department arrived and transported Jones to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. An autopsy will be performed by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and they will determine the official cause of death. 

When these incidents occur, it is standard procedure for the Irving Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and the Dallas County Public Integrity Unit to conduct separate investigations. Those investigations are currently underway, and no further information will be released at this time. Per routine, Irving Internal Affairs is also conducting an internal review, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office has been notified.
