Coppell continues cyber security incident investigation
March 14, 2025
Coppell—The City of Coppell continues to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and a data discovery firm. The investigation into the October 2024 cyber security incident is nearing completion. Impacted parties should expect to be notified in the coming months.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, an external party temporarily gained access to the City’s servers. Automated security systems responded immediately, helping to contain and mitigate the impact.
Data stored on one affected server included partial, and potentially outdated, individual and vendor information. Over the last many months, the City has collaborated with a data discovery team to learn the specific nature of this data, with efforts focused on pinpointing any potentially personally identifiable information.
Once data discovery efforts are complete, the City will provide notice, information, and additional resources directly to those who were impacted by the incident, to the extent possible. If you are concerned about your information, please review the Reference Guide (PDF) to learn how to order a free credit report, contact the Federal Trade Commission, place a fraud alert on your credit file, or to authorize a security freeze.
The City has taken appropriate actions to identify potential system weaknesses and continues to upgrade its security measures to protect against future bad actors.
