LaWanda Joyce Richardson, 84, of Irving, Texas was called Home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2025, with her daughters by her side.
LaWanda was born May 9, 1940, in Lawton, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Robert Louie Morton and Mattie May Holybee. She graduated Salutatorian from Snyder High School in 1958 and married Joe Lee Richardson in August 1958. LaWanda, together with her husband Joe and daughter Leslie Jo moved to Irving, Texas in 1965. They welcomed LeAnn Joyce and Lora Lynn both born in Irving, Texas. She worked many years as an office manager and accountant with Greene’s Temporaries and Jobs Unlimited.
LaWanda lived a full and active life. She was her children and grandchildren’s number one fan and attended as many of their events as possible. She was a highly skilled card player and continued to play bridge every Tuesday with the occasional trip to Winstar to teach the grandkids how to play Blackjack. She loved to travel with some of her favorite stops being Cabo, Cancun, and trips with her girlfriends. And, she loved the Dallas Cowboys! Her unwavering loyalty to America’s team was truly something to admire! LaWanda was a source of love, strength and kindness to all who knew her.
LaWanda was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Mattie Morton, and her siblings, Son Morton (Tishomingo, OK) and Betty Thompson (Elkhorn, NE). and her beloved husband, Floyd Lucas (Irving, TX).
She is survived by her three daughters: Leslie Haack and husband Kalum (Katy, TX), LeAnn Gregory and husband Troy (Lawrence, KS) Lora Briggs and husband Sean (Corinth, TX).
The joys of LaWanda’s life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Matte Hargis, husband Cass and son Cooper, Brooks Haack, wife Berkeley and son Beckham, Hope Gregory, Grant Gregory, Connor Briggs, Rowan Briggs and Gavin Briggs.
She cherished her nieces and nephews, Janice Wilson (Odessa, TX), Wayne Morton (Tishomingo, OK), Pennye Patton (Duncan, OK), Richard Thompson (Bennington, NE) and Kathy Summerville (Council Bluffs, IA).
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – noon on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Brown’s
Memorial Funeral Home 707 N. MacArthur Blvd. Irving, TX 75061.
A Celebration of Life in honor of LaWanda will follow at noon. on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home.
All are welcome to attend LaWanda’s graveside service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Snyder, Oklahoma.
