Officers return fire
May 02, 2025
Grand Prairie—Grand Prairie Officers responded to the 4600 block of Yellowleaf Drive regarding an adult female shooting a firearm on Apr. 24 at approximately 12:56 a.m. Upon arrival, officers located the female in a backyard and attempted to negotiate her surrender.
During negotiations, the female climbed the backyard fence where she pointed and fired the firearm at the perimeter officers, nearly striking them.
Fearing for their lives, two officers returned fire, grazing the female and knocking her to the ground. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital by Grand Prairie Medics for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Per departmental policy, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Officer-Involved Shooting Team responded to the scene and is conducting an independent investigation. The Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards will be conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
Both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave.
