Michael’s unwavering commitment and exceptional service have made him a beloved figure in the neighborhood he serves.

“For the Long Haul” is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving employees like Michael, who have become integral parts of their communities. Over the years, he has developed lasting relationships with residents, going above and beyond to ensure their mail is delivered with care and reliability.

Michael began his career with the Postal Service in 1982 at the Dallas, TX Cockrell Hill Post Office and has served at multiple Dallas offices. He has been at the DeSoto Station since 1984 and has over 3,900 hours of sick leave.

Michael is a dedicated community member, actively participating in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Annual Food Drive and organizes a water drive every summer for the Red Oak, TX Police and Fire Departments. He consistently delivers the mail with a smile and a kind word for everyone he encounters.

“I believe I was put here for a reason and would give the shirt off my back if needed,” Marez said.

DeSoto Postmaster Scott McCain said, “Michael is one of the most dependable carriers we have. We are proud to honor him as part of our 'For the Long Haul' initiative and celebrate the positive impact he has made on so many lives in DeSoto."
