Gloria Guadalupe Barrera

On May 17, 2025, Gloria Guadalupe Barrera passed peacefully into Heaven at the age of 94. She was born on January 5, 1931, in Laredo Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmundo and Ricarda. Gloria spent her early years in Hebbronville, Texas before moving to Denton to attend Texas Women’s University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in education. Gloria was employed by The Dallas Independent School District. She was a music teacher for many years at Gabe P. Allen Elementary School. Gloria retired in 1992 after 35 years as a teacher and counselor. She lived in Irving for 58 years with good friends Sherry Gragg and Pat Strain. After retirement, Gloria spent many years enjoying her love of fishing at Lafe Fork where she won several bass fishing awards. Gloria also spent several years coaching the Cubbettes in the Irving Girls Softball League, where she held the office of treasurer. Another interest Gloria had was dogs and dog training. She enjoyed her dogs all through her life. Her last furr baby was the love of her life, a Boston Terrier named Scooby. Gloria had many longtime friends, including Sherry Gragg (now deceased), Pat Strain, Bernadette Vega, Janice Brown, Margaret Greenleaf, and Sandye Hill. No formal service will be held as Gloria requested.
