John Elton Huffman

John Elton Huffman passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on June 6, 2025 in Midlothian, TX. He was surrounded by his family. He was born in May 1926 in Irving, TX in a log cabin off Shady Grove and Belt Line Rd. It was known as Sowers at the time. He was born to parents Ben Huffman and Ruby Huffman.
In 1944, John joined the United States Navy where he served in the South Pacific during World World II on a ship named the Nipmuc. In 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned home to the family farm in Irving. He got a job at the Texas Oil Refinery off Singleton Blvd in Dallas.
As fate would have it, was introduced to Sue Haley. In 1949 they were married and lived in Irving until her death in May 2018. John had a 37-year career with LTV-Vought Aerospace. He as a Leadman, Supervisor, and eventually an Engineer Consultant working on the 747 aircraft.
John accepted Christ as a young boy at a Revival at the Sowers Baptist Church. He later joined the Delaware Church of Christ, then merged with the South MacArthur Church of Christ, and was a charter member of the Christ Church on Airport Freeway.
John loved working with his hands. He was a master at gardening and produced the best tomatoes around. He worked with the Vought Retiree Club restoring vintage aircraft for display in museums around the US. He was truly a “Mr. Fix-It” man who could build, remodel, restore, fix, and refurbish anything.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Haley Huffman. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Mary Price and brother Gary Huffman; daughter Cindy Pannell and husband Dennis of China Spring, TX; daughter Pam Till and husband Randy of Midlothian, TX; son Johnny Huffman and wife Debbie of Red Oak, TX; grandchildren Michael Spain, Mandy Johnson, Craig Till and wife Sarah Jane; Krystal Granzow and husband Jimmy; Haley Stewart and husband Zach; Ryan Pannell and wife Ashley; Troy Pannell, Jacob Huffman, and Dakota Huffman; and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be held on Saturday, June 14 at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. at the Ben Brown Memorial Funeral Home located at 707 N. MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX followed by the graveside service at the Haley Memorial Cemetery located at 4101 W. Pioneer
Drive, Irving, TX 75061.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Haley Memorial Cemetery Association and mail to 3040 Keri Ln., Midlothian, TX 76065-6611.
