Cedar Hill native outshines peers

Millington, Tenn.—Ensign Scotty Cook, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, was awarded the Navy League Honor, Courage, and Commitment Award and the Leadership Management Excellence Award during a recent graduation held at the Navy Supply Corps School (NSCS) in Newport, Rhode Island.
Cook is a 2011 Cedar Hill High School graduate. Additionally, Cook graduated from the University of North Texas in 2018. Cook joined the Navy 14 years ago.
"Receiving the Navy League Honor, Courage, and Commitment Award and the Leadership Management Excellence Award during my time as a student in the Navy’s Officer Supply Course means a lot to me," Cook said. "It shows that the effort I put into learning, leading and supporting my classmates didn’t go unnoticed. Even as a student, I wanted to set a positive example and be someone others could rely on. These awards remind me that leadership starts at every level, and I’m proud to have made an impact early in my officer career."
Navy Supply Corps officers play a critical role in ensuring sailors have the equipment and resources they need to maintain readiness and counter global threats.
NSCS, whose mission is to provide students with the personal and professional foundations for success, prepares its graduates to offer global logistics support across the fleet. Following graduation, officers like Cook are deployed worldwide to put their training into action, contributing to the Navy’s continuous presence around the globe.
The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 250th birthday this year.
According to Navy officials, “America is a maritime nation and for 250 years, America’s Warfighting Navy has sailed the globe in defense of freedom.”
With 90 percent of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.
Cook can take pride in serving America through military service.
