It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alice Drew Weatherby, who was born on April 18, 1936, in Emmet, Arkansas. Alice lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, dedicated service, and profound generosity, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Alice’s journey began in rural Arkansas, but her aspirations took her to Texas Women’s University, where she earned her degree. She was a lifelong learner, known for being incredibly well-read and always eager to explore new ideas. Her love for knowledge was paralleled only by her passion for travel, which enriched her life and broadened her perspective.
On December 27, 1956, Alice married the love of her life, William Wayne Weatherby. Their remarkable union spanned nearly 70 years, serving as a beautiful example of enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised their beloved son, Mark Wayne Weatherby.
Alice dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds. She began her career as a cherished fourth-grade teacher in Irving ISD schools, where her warmth and commitment undoubtedly shaped countless students. Later, she transitioned to a role as a librarian, continuing to foster a love of reading and learning within her community.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Alice’s philanthropy was deeply centered on children. She was truly selfless, making significant monetary donations and dedicating countless hours to working directly with young people. Alice understood the invaluable importance of investing in the next generation, and her generosity will undoubtedly have a lasting legacy.
Alice Drew Weatherby is survived by William Wayne Weatherby, her husband of 68 years; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Wayne and Karen Weatherby; grandson Drew Wayne Weatherby; granddaughter Katie Frances Carpenter and husband Tory Carpenter; great-grandsons Miles and Clayton; brother Phillip Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her spirit of dedication, love, and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place for children will be deeply missed by all.
