North Texas Commission selects new chair

Lancaster—The City of Lancaster announced that Lancaster City Manager Opal Mauldin Jones has been selected chair of the North Texas Commission (NTC), effective Oct. 1. The announcement was made during the North Texas Commission’s 54th Annual Meeting on Friday, Sept. 13. This appointment makes Mauldin-Jones the first city manager to serve as chair of the regional organization. 

The North Texas Commission brings together businesses, municipalities, chambers, and higher education institutions to strengthen the economic vitality and quality of life across North Texas. In her new role, Mauldin Jones will help advance NTC’s priorities, foster collaboration among members, and address regional challenges that impact the state’s fastest-growing region. 

“North Texas thrives when we build bridges and work together across city lines, industries and communities,” Mauldin-Jones said. “As chair, I look forward to engaging our members, advocating on the front lines at the state and federal level and helping to grow the Commission’s priorities for the benefit of all North Texans.” 

As Chair, Mauldin-Jones will partner with the CEO, Chris Wallace and the NTC leadership team to shape the organization’s long-term strategy. This includes driving initiatives on critical issues such as transportation, infrastructure and workforce development, while amplifying the needs of local communities. 

“This is a proud moment for Lancaster and our region,” Mayor Clyde C. Hairston said. “Opal’s decades of leadership in local government uniquely positions her to guide the North Texas Commission as chair. Her experience, vision and dedication will help advance priorities and address regional challenges all while creating lasting impact across communities throughout North Texas.”
