Coppell—The City of Coppell announced Lauren Thoden has been selected to serve as city secretary effective Sept. 22. Thoden comes to Coppell from the City of Denton, where she had previously served as city secretary since early 2024.

A former attorney, Thoden has worked in the government and legal fields in various capacities for more than 20 years, including serving as the chief deputy town clerk in Brookhaven, NY, for 10 years. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a JD from Hofstra University School of Law. She is currently working toward a Texas Municipal Clerk Certification at the University of North Texas and holds memberships with the Texas Municipal Clerks Association, the North Texas Municipal Clerks Association, and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

“I’m honored to join the City of Coppell and look forward to fervently serving the community with integrity,” Thoden said.

The city secretary serves as a primary liaison to the city council, attending, coordinating, and documenting all meetings to ensure transparency and legal compliance. This position also manages all of the City’s official records, oversees election administration, and coordinates all public information requests in accordance with all state and federal laws.

"We are excited to welcome Lauren to the City of Coppell,” City Manager Mike Land said. “Her strong background in law and legislative processes will be a tremendous asset to our organization. I am confident that her experience, professionalism, and commitment to public service will make her an excellent addition to our team.”
