John Drake Named to International Fundraising Association’s Hall of Honor

October 03, 2025

IRVING--Baylor Scott & White Irving Foundation President John Drake will be inducted into
the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy’s (AHP) Hall of Honor for 2025 at the
organization’s annual international conference in Colorado this October.

“As the association’s highest recognition, becoming a member of the Hall of Honor
represents a crowning achievement that rewards significant and renowned contributions
to the advancement of the healthcare philanthropy profession,” AHP writes on its
website.

Drake’s nomination was submitted by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving
President Cindy Schamp. Drake is the only 2025 inductee from the United States and
the other two honorees from Canada and Germany. AHP is an organization that
provides education and support to more than 5,000 healthcare fundraisers worldwide.

“This recognition celebrates John’s unwavering dedication and passion as an
innovator in the world of healthcare philanthropy. His leadership and vision have made
a lasting difference, and now his contributions are being honored on an international
stage,” Schamp said.

Drake noted, “Cindy’s beautiful nomination of me was honor enough, but I’m so
grateful to AHP for this recognition. I also love that my predecessor, Patricia “Pat”
Carnell, won this same award in 2000 at the time she retired. The fact that two people
from one small fundraising shop in Irving have twice won this international award in the
past 51 years is gratifying. Pat and I both greatly enjoyed volunteering for AHP during
our careers.”

Drake volunteered on a near-constant basis with AHP over his 30 years of
membership. He twice served as AHP’s Vice President of Membership and
Communications and as Regional Director for the Rockies & Southwest Region. From
2012 to 2023 he served on the faculty of AHP Madison Institute, which is the premiere
learning offering for healthcare fundraisers that the association hosts in partnership with
the University of Wisconsin; he led this institute as chair in his last year. In 2022, Drake
also completed three years of service on the FAHP Accreditation Committee, which
certifies new Fellows of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. FAHP is the
highest professional certification that AHP offers, and Drake earned his FAHP in 2019.
Today, John also serves as a Trustee of the AHP Foundation, which awards
scholarships for members to attend Madison Institute and conferences hosted around
the globe.
