Councilman Ezeonu receives national recognition

Grand Prairie—The city of Grand Prairie congratulates Junior Ezeonu, At Large Place 8 city council member, for being recognized with the Congressional Black Caucus Young, Gifted and Green 40 Under 40 Award presented by the Black Millennials 4 Flint organization. The award commends exceptional service related to environmental justice work specifically in historically disenfranchised communities.

“City Council Member Ezeonu’s receipt of this prestigious national honor is truly commendable,” Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen said. “He is a rising star and sustainability champion who represents our city well by actively finding solutions to pressing environmental and social issues.” 

The annual award ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C.

“I am honored to receive this recognition,” Ezeonu said. “For us to create a sustainable world where our children can flourish, it will take a collective effort of our Grand community, united by our deep commitment to the well-being of our planet.”

Young, Gifted & Green 40 under 40 is an annual list of environmental justice leaders under the age of 40, originating from Black, Latin, and Indigenous communities across the United States. Nominees include individuals making a significant difference in environmental justice, such as educators, scientists, artists, policymakers, health care/public health professionals, faith-based leaders, mental health professionals, birth workers, farmers, social-justice advocates/activists, storytellers, journalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, chefs, clean-energy gurus and social media influencers.
