Wayland Alexander Brooks

Wayland Brooks passed away peacefully on Feb 29, 2024, in Las Colinas, Irving, Texas.

Wayland was born in Dallas, Texas on December 5, 1934. Wayland attended Highland Park High School, Dallas, Texas; graduated from Allen Military Academy, Bryan, Texas; and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Wayland was a religious man and a member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington.

Wayland was a pilot for Delta Airlines and flew for them for 31 years, retiring in 1987. He loved working outdoors on his farm. Wayland had a farm in the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas for 33 years. Family interests brought him to Palo Pinot County, Texas, which brought him to Possum Kingdom Lake. He soon learned to love Possum Kingdom Lake. In the earlier years, he enjoyed boating and fishing. He soon became interested in ranching. He would spend days mowing and working and his pleasure was looking back and seeing what had been accomplished. Having family and friends out to the lake was the best lake experience. Wayland is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nita Kay Porter Brooks; four children Karen Brooks, Donny Brooks (Traci), Shelly Johns (Dan) and Dotchie Warren (James). Wayland is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Lee Markum (Lacey), Doug Markum (Patrice), Spencer Markum (Katie), Taylor Johns, Mathew Johns, Amy Haskins, Ryan Brooks, and Reagan Brooks; great granddaughter Rheyanna Markum, and great grandson Harrison Markum. Also, Godson Brian Bolton, extended family members and many friends.

Wayland was preceded in death by his parents Flora Belle Smith and Douglas Brooks and his aunt Doris Brooks.

Wayland Brooks will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His warmth, wisdom, joy sense of humbor he brought to every gathering will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation and celebration of life were held March 13 and March 14 at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Burial was at McAdams Cemetery , Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas.
