Raymond Ed McCarty

Raymond “Ed” McCarty, 82, of Irving, Texas born June 13, 1941, in Saint Joseph, MO, passed away on March 15, 2024. He was a loving husband, Dad, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a great friend to many and astute businessman and mentor to focused high school seniors via Camp Ryla.

He loved his family, golf, cooking steaks and ribs on the grill, watching “The Wheel,” the “Varney Show,” Martha MacCallum, and Kudlow in the company of his best bud, Charlie, in his lap. He loved family get togethers for all holidays and any event to bring everyone together to celebrate. He also cherished spending time in his yard.

He would do whatever’s necessary to take care of his family. He was a dad with a mind like a steel trap and could tell jokes better than anyone. Behind all the jokes was a man with a great heart.

He was an avid Texas Rangers fan and had sea-son tickets for 35 years at 3 different ball parks and watched every minute of the World Series with the final win of the World Series champions in 2023.

He loved playing golf each week with his close friends and his daughter, Jamie. Many memories were created on the golf course, before, during and after. He liked to visit the field-house for a lunch and discussions.

He was the leader of the McCarty clan. It takes grace, intelligence and giving to blend two families together. He gave advice, guidance and treated everyone with fairness and

love.

He was born in Saint Joseph, MO and was raised in Mt. Sterling KY. He attended Mt. Sterling Elementary and Mt Sterling High School. He attended the Draughton Business College in Louisville and made his way to Irving, TX.

He came to Irving from Mt. Sterling, KY in the late sixties. He worked for a finance company called HCC Credit for many years. He then went to work for Barclays and ended up working at ACE Cash Express as Executive Vice President and President of Franchising Operations. During his tenure ACE began to franchise the ACE name to check-cashing centers nationwide. A total of 105 new stores (including franchises) opened in 1996 and 120 opened in 1997. ACE re-ported a record-breaking $87.4 million in sales in 1997.

He started a multi-location maternity store called Daddy-Did It. Virginia ran the business and dad did the books. The store was staffed with all of his daughters. It ran success-fully until the local retailers got wind of a good thing and started selling the same outfits. They took old frumpy maternity wear to elegant and stylish.

After a successful career, he retired in 2002. In the early days of ACE history, he led the franchise division helping to significantly expand the number of stores across the United States.

After retirement he got involved and used his extensive business experience and helped Irving Texas residents by serving on the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of-Directors, subcommittees, and Community Relations Committee.

He was an active Rotarian, serving multiple stints in the Irving Rotary Clubs Board of Directors and a past President. He was Director of Vocational service, where he was responsible for projects and programs such as school supplies, youth services, ROTC recognition, Vocational Awards, and Camp RYLA. He was committee chair of Camp RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Award. He received the RYLA Program Leadership Service Award.

He was the 2015-2016 Chairman for the Salvation Army in Irving and oversaw at 20-member advisory council and provided recommendations and advice to the Salvation Army staff. He also served as a street representative for the Historical Hospital District Neighborhood Association. He also spent his time working on the Flags Over Irving program five holidays each year. In short, his love for Irving was unlimited.

In addition to his volunteer hours, he spent most Friday nights with the Misfits, a local dinner club that meets every Friday night. They are 37 years old and started at Angelos. They visit Irving eateries and have solved all the world’s problems over a nice dinner. :)

Our dad is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia of 49 years; parents, Arthur Edward McCarty and, Nannie B McCarty; and grandson Michael Lance Berry. Ed leaves behind his sons Arthur E McCarty II (and wife Soni), Mark McCarty (and wife Amy) and daughters Jamie Windle, (and husband Terry) Jennie Hollingsworth, Sherrie Beyer (and husband Chet) and Donna Saffle (and husband John). His brother, Gene McCarty. His grandchildren, Allie McCarty, Kenzie McCarty, Edward Banks Windle, Sarah Allison Windle, Jett Owen McCarty, Isabella Rae McCarty, Joshua Clay Berry, Ryan Reide Berry, Thomas Alexander Sills, Hollye Morgan Rush, Susan Hannah Saffle and Kamryn Doggett and great-grandchildren, Charli, Dean, Ryot, Regan, Boston, Miles Lance, and Brock.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Ply-mouth Park United Methodist Church 1615 W. Airport Fwy Irving, TX 75062.

A reception will follow the memorial service at Ply-mouth Park United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Following the reception the family will lay Ed to rest at Oak Grove Memorial Gar-dens in Irving, Texas next to his wife Virginia.
