June 14, 2024

Irving—The Lone Star Youth Orchestra is pleased to announce the hiring of Marvin Garduno as conductor. The LSYO will begin its 26th season this fall, marking a new era.

Garduno, the director of Orchestras at the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy, where he has taught since 2017. A Dallas native, Garduno attended Texas Tech University, where he received a bachelor's and a master's in music education. His orchestra consistently achieves superior ratings at UIL contests, and his students have been invited to compete at the ASTA National Orchestra Festival. In an effort to teach beyond the classroom, Garduno practices a flipped classroom approach by creating accessible content for music educators and aspiring musicians that helps them be better prepared for their musical adventure.

Based in Irving, the Lone Star Youth Orchestra is the only tuition-free youth orchestra in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The orchestra is open to all middle school and high school students residing in the DFW Metroplex. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings (6:30 to 9 p.m.) from early September through mid-May. The LSYO presents several public concerts during the season (in November, March, and May).

Auditions will take place Saturday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Aug. 24. Audition information and other details about the youth orchestra may be found online at www.lascolinassymphony.org/lsyo.
