20-year-old held in homicide investigation

Grand Prairie—The Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a shooting in the 400 block of E Palace Parkway on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at around 8:45 p.m. Officers located a male with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported by medics to a local hospital where medical staff later pronounced him deceased.
Detectives determined the suspect and victim, who knew one another, were involved in an altercation which escalated, resulting in the shooting.
The suspect, identified as Zahrek Patton, 20 years of age of Fort Worth, was located nearby and arrested by officers. Patton is currently being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a murder charge with a bond set at $1,000,000.
The identity of the deceased will be released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
