Warming centers open in DFW
As temperatures drop, cities across North Texas have announced the opening of several 24/7 warming centers.
Grand Prairie has opened the Public Safety Building located at 1525 Arkansas Lane, which will remain operational until weather conditions improve.
The center aims to provide a safe and warm environment for those in need. Residents planning to use the facility should note several guidelines:
- Transportation to the warming center is not provided.
- Only service animals are permitted.
- Personal sleeping bags and cots are not allowed.
- Guests are encouraged to bring chargers for their electronic devices.
- Water will be available on-site, and individuals are welcome to bring their own food.
In addition to the Grand Prairie center, other shelters in the region are also open to accommodate those affected by the cold.
The Christ Church shelter, located at 1752 E. Airport Freeway in Irving, offers extensive facilities, including restrooms, showers and meal services.
However, this location has reached capacity, and those now seeking shelter are advised to go to the Dallas Inclement Weather Shelter at the Fair Park Grand Place Building.
“Warming centers are more than an escape from the cold; they are a lifeline, a reminder that every life has value, and a testament to the power of compassion in the face of hardship,” Anthony Alexander, media officer for Irving Police Department, said.
